In Portugal, public participation in final decision making has become more and more relevant, following the requirement to acquire new technologies that can permit a more efficient and widespread distribution of information to the public. The public participation, within the aspects for an Environmental Impact Assessment, has evolved from a fundamental institutional procedure to a more widespread form for public participation. With reference to a number of case studies, it is hoped to study how these new methods of information technologies in combination with the more traditional methods have improved for a more efficient public participation process. To finish, various proposals to improve this structure will be presented.
