Topic Details
Global change science is a complex emerging field involving truly interdisciplinary work and addressing issues with very important socioeconomical repercussions. We seek contributions that address global change science issues such as global climate and environmental change, its impact on economic development, public health, etc., and that use new information technologies as part of their public outreach activities to help disseminate scientific findings among governmental institutions and the public at large and promote well informed and active public participation in policy-making in the area of global change.
Examples of topics of interest range from public outreach and
education efforts (schools and universities projects involving
students and teachers of all grades, museum exhibits, World Wide
Web-based projects, etc.), to the search for efficient methods of
relaying complex scientific results to the lay persons directly
affected by them (e.g., visualization techniques for data display,
development of interactive modules for hypothesis testing and risk
assessment, design of virtual laboratories), to efforts in assessing
public opinion, knowledge, and participation in global change debates.
