CITIDEP NEWS - 14 May 2001

==========================================================

ICPPIT03 is going well. All CITIDEP fellows expressed concern about Isabel (Medina) and wish her speedy recovery. You can follow ICPPIT03 sessions live at http://web.mit.edu/uis/icppit03/ (we will try o put also the link live on http://www.citidep.pt/icppit03/).

Our first ever CITIDEP international meeting went very well. Today we had a great conference day, and a DUSP reception offered to CITIDEP. Most of CITIDEP members in the area came, and many were introduced to Larry Vale (DUSP Head) and it was very good, a very strong representation. Larry Vale said a few words of formal welcome and informal presentation, and this established a good precedent for a institutional relationship between CITIDEP and DUSP.

We have had already two networking meetings. You can join this effort by sending today a short profile of yourself (name, institution, contact, academic or professional qualification, areas of interest). We send you here the quick exampls that were written Sunday 9, and the one sent by our colleague. If you send it, we will be able to circulate among all ICPPIT03 participating in this network efforts. We divided in 3 groups of interest: (1) education, citizenship and ITC; (2) development, migrants, mobility, international/regional cooperation and ITC; (3) grassroots, environment and health.

statement of Interest of Julio Santos , PhD (Viana do Castelo, Portugal) , jgsantos@ese.ipvc.pt

My research interests are right now linked to our aid work and interventions particularly in Guinea-Bissau, gola and Cape Verde. I need to think more on this. For instance, the case of Angola is a fascinating one: a context in transition and post-conflict situation where social systems must be rebuilt and new strategies and alternative forms of education provision need to be devised. The role of NGOs and decentralized structures, the potential role of local actors, the use of ICT in teacher education and community participation through a network of resource centres for disadvantaged groups (namelly internally displaced and refugees, and groups in rural areas), all this constitutes the current scenario of our work for implementing educational change. I´have been discussing and exchanging ideas with people at Unesco who are also researching and implementing projects in post-conflict situations.

Julio Santos

We thank Julio for his very good, very useful statement. Send us more statements with your profile and interests.
