1 - Lecture Broadcast on Citizenship and Internet:

This wednesday, 16 May 2001, from 11.30 AM to 13.00 PM (TMG), it will be video-broadcast via Internet a Session on "Citizenship, Internet, The Highschool and The Big Brother", organized by "uARTE", the agency from the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology in charge of connecting schools to Internet. "uARTE" invited our colleague Pedro Ferraz de Abreu to give this lecture and CITIDEP to participate in moderating the "chat" via IRC, during the session. Two Highschools will be special participants: "Pedro Nunes", with students in the studio, and "Montejunto", with a videoconference link. 2 - CITIDEP Mexico Chapter foundation meeting:

Our colleagues from CITIDEP Mexico decided to organize themselves as formal CITIDEP Chapter, at Mellado, Guanajuato. Were elected Coordinators: Luis Rionda (Guanajuato), Alejandro Natal (Toluca). With the support from Colegio Mexiquense, CITIDEP Mexico is offering research grants, possibly for graduate degrees. Research Topics proposals:
*  "Nuevas Tecnologias y Democracia Participativa: propuestas para Desarrollar Lineas de Investigacion", by Prudencio Mochi *  "Participation Ciudadana", by Alejandro Natal *  "Democracia Participativa y Nuevas Tecnologías de Información en un Mundo Globalizado", by Luis Miguel Rionda

3 - CITIDEP Analysis Forum, Guanajuato:

CITIDEP Mexico organized an "Analysis Forum" included in the Programa of the VI Encuentro de la ANECPAP - Asociacion Nacional de Estudiantes de Ciencia Politica y Administracion Publica - Universidad de Guanajuato, Mexico, 2 de Marzo 2001. Invited by ANECPAP and the University of Guanajuato, presented communications Alejandra Sota, Pedro Ferraz de Abreu, Prudencio Mochi, Alejandro Natal and Luis Miguel Rionda. 4 - Foro Ciudadania Migrante y Democracia:

At the Foro Internacional sobre Ciudadania Migrante y Democracia,8 and 9 March 2001, organized by CICSUG, Universidad de Guanajuato (Director: Luis Rionda), it was presented by Pedro Ferraz de Abreu a proposal for a Joint Communication by CITIDEP researchers in the domain of migration, citizenship and democracy: "Towards a new framework for citizen mobility within modern democracy" (slides available).  http://www.citidep.pt/mexico/eventsmx.html#cidmig

5 - "Internet in Schools" Meeting, Odivelas:

Took place the 15th e 16th February 2001, the "Internet in Schools" Meeting, organized by the Municipality of Odivelas and chaired by our colleague Filomena Henriques, targeting professors of "1o Cycle" and "Child Gardens" (ages 5 to 13). CITIDEP accepted the invitation to present communications on the theme "The Information and Communication Technologies as a Resource to Teach Citizenship", with Pedro Ferraz de Abreu, based on the paper "Alguns Desafios da Educação em Portugal na Era da Internet e da Democracia Participativa" and presenting the "Citizenship Kit " Project, and Catherine Michel presenting "Escrita Interactiva: A Aprendizagem da Democracia pela Pratica" (french text, portuguese summary). 6 - Internet Video Lecture Delivery:

During its March 2001 meetings, CITIDEP USA discussed the proposal presented by Carl Jentges towards the Delivery via Internet and CD-ROM of videotaped lectures. More details soon available.
